Peter founded the business in 1986 and is a qualified indentured precision engineer and was trained by the former Hoffman manufacturing company (Chelmsford). Peter opened Popham engineering services in 1972 which carried out machining of precision components for various manufacturers. Peter has gained considerable experience during his 40years involvement with the motor trade – his training was mainly given by his father J H B Popham who had his own business in Waltham Abbey.

Gary started with Peter as a school leaver in 1986 and has progressed through the workshop and is now in sole charge with his father now being in a semi retired position. Gary has hands on experience on all aspects of the business and is qualified to advise customers and staff alike on their day to day requirements.

Brian gained his qualifications at Thurrock College . After that he worked at an accident / garage repair centre in Rainham. He joined the company as a workshop technician in 1996 and has progressed in all aspects of the company. Brian is a fully qualified technician and MOT tester and manages all aspects of the MOT scheme. Last year Brian was promoted to service manager and now works alongside Gary with the day-to-day running of the office and workshop.

Dave gained his qualifications at Essex training college whilst doing his practical training at Doe's of Maldon (now Dovercourt Ford). Dave is a fully qualified senior MOT tester and technician and has over 14 years experience in the motor trade.

Tom gained his City & Guilds certificate at Southend College while gaining his practical experience working for Toomey Renault. He has also worked for Toomey Daewoo and was a Depot Manager of Roadstar at Chelmsford . Tom is a fully qualified senior MOT tester and technician with 10 years experience in the motor trade.

Ricky is the youngest of our qualified MOT tester and technician team. He gained his qualifications at college at Colchester and Braintree whilst undertaking his practical training at Jones of Chelmsford. He has also worked at John Pease Mazda & John Pease Suzuki before joining our team.

Daniel joined us at 14 by undertaking his school trident scheme & also working on Saturdays. Daniel is now attending Writtle motor college and is in his 3rd year. He is a part qualified motor technician and won the light maintenance & repair apprentice of the year award in July 2006. This was obviously a great achievement for Daniel and us. Daniel will soon be eligible for mot training and will be attending further training courses as his career progresses.

Ricky originally joined us at 14 by undertaking his school trident scheme & working on Saturdays. Ricky is now a trainee motor apprentice/tyre fitter. He is currently attending Writtle Motor College and is now following the same course as Daniel burley.

Lewis is another one of our trident students who joined us at 14 also working on Saturdays. He is now attending Writtle Motor College for 3 days a week while gaining his practical experience with us for the remainder of the week.

Mick has been with us since 2003 – he originally came to us as an MOT Assistant but also looks after all our general day to day maintenance and repairs.

A receptionist is always important in a company as they are the 1 st point of contact with the customers, either on the phone or in person. Hayley ensures our customers are well looked after – arranging bookings and assisting Gary and Brian with the day-to-day running of the office.

Angela's weekly tasks are to ensure that the day to day running of the company's accounting system is carried out effectively. She has been involved in accounts for 25 years – using various accounts programmes during this time.
